PT Pertamina EP found oil at Sungai Gelam Timur-001 Exploration Well (SGET-001) located in the vicinity of field Jambi, Sungai Gelam District, Muaro Jambi Regency, Province of Jambi.
The well is located approximately 8 kilometers (km) from the existing SP GS-02 production facility and 14 km from the SP Ketaling production facility.
The well with oil resources has a flow rate of 434 barrels per day (Barrel Oil Per Day/BOPD) and gas 0.18 million standard cubic feet per day (Million Standard Cubic Feet per Day/MMSCFD).
The discovery was made thanks to work on the coating content test (Drill Stem TestThe first /DST (DST#1) was carried out on a sandstone reservoir of the Air Benakat Formation at an interval of 1,622-1,624 meters (mMD).
Next, the company plans to conduct a second DST (DST#2) at an interval of 1,491-1,495 meters (mMD) in the Air Benakat Formation.
President Director of PT Pertamina Hulu Rokan, as Pertamina’s Regional Sumatra Subholding Upstream, Jaffee Arizon Suardin said all these efforts were a manifestation of Pertamina’s commitment to increasing oil and gas reserves and production in Sumatra and supporting the achievement of national oil and gas production targets.
“In addition to the achievement of these resource findings, operationally it is quite successful. The SGET-001 well was completed ahead of schedule with the realization of costs below the target. Hopefully this achievement can be maintained until rig release,” he said in an official statement, Monday (17/1).
He said the drilling of the SGET-001 well was carried out by taking into account the aspects of the Health Safety Security Environment (HSSE) and strictly implementing the COVID-19 protocol.
Jaffe hopes that the success of the discovery of this oil source can be a spark of enthusiasm for Pertamina workers in the Sumatra Region to continue trying to find new oil and gas reserves.
Separately, the Head of Representative for SKK Migas Sumbagsel Anggono Mahendrawan expressed his high appreciation to all parties who took part in efforts to find oil and gas reserves in all upstream oil and gas working areas, especially in the Southern Sumatra region.
He added that this achievement can be a motivation to encourage the enthusiasm of all parties, both the government and the local community to support the upstream oil and gas industry in seeking more aggressive oil and gas reserves.
“We must be optimistic that the common goal will be realized, this discovery must be able to lift our spirits together, because the progress of the upstream oil and gas industry is also the progress of all of us,” said Anggono.
