“Let’s see what’s left,” says the 38-year-old man and strolls through the corridors of the Hotel Savoy, where furniture, pictures, crockery and bedding are stacked up, all with a price tag. The five-star hotel on Zurich’s Paradeplatz has been closed since the beginning of the year and is being completely renovated. The owner Credit Suisse has handed over the operation to the Asian Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, which will reopen the hotel in mid-2024 under the name Mandarin Oriental Savoy Zurich.
In these days, the entire inventory is for sale, as the last act in the checkered history of the hotel. The 38-year-old from the city of Zurich has a special relationship with the house. He completed his cooking apprenticeship here in 2000, as he reports. “Those were different times back then, old school, strict bosses, but we had it good in our team – and mostly very funny.” In any case, he has positive memories of that time.
