Walmart is seeking to hire another 50,000 new workers amid the spread of the coronavirus in the United States.
The Walmart company is hiring 50,000 new workers, after reaching its previous goal of hiring 150,000 new employees a few weeks ago. Univision had reported this in March during this first phase of hiring.
The company announced the news this Friday on its Twitter account last Friday.
We’ve met our goal of hiring 150k associates in the past month, and we’re committing to hire an additional 50k associates. We’re dedicated to helping our fellow Americans who are seeking work, while serving our customers during this unprecedented time. https://t.co/z7GbkqegHg pic.twitter.com/uF7wnp8I5T
This capitalizes on the “opportunity to provide additional staff in key areas where it is most needed,” this includes stores and distribution centers.
It should be noted that Walmart (WMT) is the largest private employer in the United States and has a national workforce of approximately 1.5 million workers, as reported by Xeu, Mexico.
Details and how to apply
The official announcement was released by John Furner, President and CEO of Walmart USA. With a statement also posted on the company’s website.
Thus the article formally says: “Walmart is committed to helping our fellow Americans looking for work, as we serve our customers during this unprecedented time. We recently committed to hiring more than 150,000 new associates by the end of May. Since then, we have had more than 1 million applicants, hiring an average of 5,000 people per day. I am pleased to share that we reached our goal in less than a month, more than six weeks ahead of schedule. But we can do more. Today we announce a new commitment to hire an additional 50,000 associates. ”
The statement goes into more detail: “Recruitment will take place in our stores, clubs and distribution centers, but this will not be a one-size-fits-all approach. Hiring 50,000 new associates will give us the opportunity to provide additional staff in key areas where it is most needed. These hires will be primarily temporary associates and will support our associates and current clients in locations with specific needs. We are honored and proud to be able to give so many workers a chance during this critical time. ”

“We continue to see strong demand in our stores and, at the same time, we want to give our current associates the flexibility to take time off and stay home if they feel more comfortable doing so. In stores and clubs, we will continue to hire key roles, such as cashiers, storekeepers and personal shoppers. In the distribution centers we will hire substitutes and additional collectors. We will also continue to add roles as more drivers to our fleet, “said the manager.
These are other specifications: “To hire these 150,000 new associates, we have worked with more than 70 companies that have laid off workers. We are seeing these associates come from the restaurant and hospitality industries and other retailers. Of the hired associates, approximately 85 percent are being hired in temporary or part-time positions. While many of these associates want temporary employment to serve as a bridge during this time, we also hope that others will become permanent roles. ”
And here it provides very important details to apply: “We will continue to hire new associates through our accelerated hiring process, from request to offer, as soon as 24 hours. There are two easy ways for candidates to apply:
Visiting our racing website Here is the specific link on the Walmart website to apply for a job. You can also send text messages with the word “jobs” to 240240.
And so it concludes: “We are seeing great successes from the talent we are adding to the team, we are proud and appreciate all that our associates are doing to provide vital service to our communities during this time.”
Walmart had already announced special care and hygiene measures for its employees as we recently posted it here in Right Now.
On Monday, we will begin requiring associates to wear masks or other face coverings at work. This includes our stores, clubs, DCs, FCs and corporate offices. We’ll be encouraging customers and members to wear face coverings when they shop with us. https://t.co/li0FiEWIqU pic.twitter.com/kbu1ROlosc
