Offenbach (dpa / lhe) – With squalls and thunderstorms, Hessen is facing an uncomfortable Thursday. The German Weather Service (DWD) in Offenbach predicted strong south-westerly to westerly winds, and gale-force gusts are possible in the mountains and near thunderstorms. Trees could fall and cause traffic obstructions, the DWD explained on Wednesday. The Palmengarten and Botanical Gardens in Frankfurt will remain closed.
The green space office also warned of storm damage in the green areas, in the cemeteries and in the city forest. Walks and visits there were discouraged. Even after the storm has subsided, there is a risk of falling branches.
For areas above 800 meters in the Kassel administrative district and in the Fulda district, the DWD issued a storm warning of gale-force gusts. It will be windy from the second half of the night, as the DWD predicted. The autumn weather will calm down again on Thursday evening, and the showers will subside on Friday night. The maximum temperature on Thursday is 11 and 16 degrees, at night there is local frost.
On Friday it will be cloudy, mainly in the north of Hesse it will rain from time to time. At 9 to 13 degrees it is noticeably cooler. In the mountainous region and in the northern half, individual squalls cannot be ruled out. According to the forecast, clouds and showers can also be expected on Saturday.
