Deutsche Bahn releases IC and ICE trains between Cologne and Düsseldorf

Due to the massive disruption in rail traffic after the flood, the IC and ICE trains between Cologne and Düsseldorf can be used with local transport tickets.

Train drivers can now use all ICE and IC trains between Cologne and Düsseldorf with local transport tickets. The approval is valid up to and including August 5th, as announced by the Rhineland Local Transport Authority (NVR) in Cologne. The background to this is the massive impairment in rail traffic in parts of North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate due to the flood disaster.

“Up to 40 ICE and IC trains run between Cologne and Düsseldorf every day. We have found a pragmatic solution to make their daily commute at least a little easier,” explained the representative of Deutsche Bahn for North Rhine-Westphalia, Werner Lübberink. “The release of long-distance traffic between Düsseldorf and Cologne is a practical aid for our passengers in these difficult times,” said VRR board spokesman Ronald RF Lünser.

The Zweckverband recommended that all travelers find out about the planned trip before setting off, for example on the Internet. Due to the dynamic situation, there could still be additional failures, delays and impairments.
