Bolivia exceeds 490,000 accumulated positive cases of covid-19

The health authorities of Bolivia reported this Sunday, August 29, 2021, about 254 new contagion of the covid-19 and nine deaths, with which the figures accumulated since March of last year amounted to 490 056 positive cases and 18,411 deaths.

Peace and Santa Cruz, the most populated regions of the country, were those that registered the highest number of new cases this day, with 107 and 51, respectively, while the departments amazonian de Beni and Pando did not report infections.

The new positives in the other five Bolivian regions ranged between four and 28, according to the report released by the Ministry of Health.

Also reported 259 people suspected of being infected that are monitored through a toll-free telephone line enabled by the government to meet requirements related to covid-19.
Currently active cases are 38,292, while the national accumulated of recovered patients is 433,353, the report says.

The 51 cases reported this Sunday in Santa Cruz, the region hardest hit by the pandemic, is the second lowest figure in that department so far this year, the manager of Epidemiology of the Departmental Health Service (Sedes), Carlos Hurtado, told the media.

The lowest figure in Santa Cruz was registered on March 21, when 49 cases were presented, recalled Hurtado, who also highlighted that the one that concludes is the epidemiological week with the fewest cases recorded this year.

The official stressed the importance of maintaining the measures of biosecurity and advance vaccination so that infections continue to decline and we can talk about having the disease under control.

Regarding the immunizations, the national report specifies that so far, 2,652,059 people have completed the vaccination against covid-19 on Bolivia and another 3,198,735 received the first dose, out of an approximate 7.1 million inhabitants of “vaccinable” age.

The Bolivian State has acquired Chinese Sinopharm vaccines and rusas Sputnik V for the national immunization plan, which is also carried out with those donated through the Covax mechanism of United Nations which are AstraZeneca, Pfizer and Janssen, the latter single doses.

This vaccination program began at the end of January with first-line health personnel and was progressively expanded by age and occupation until July included those over 18 years of age and pregnant women.

The week also closed with worry in some regions due to a new shortage of second doses of Sputnik V, whereupon the Government requested patience and assured that these drugs they are already on their way.
