Video conferencing also possible without a Skype account ›Dr. Windows

The corona crisis and the associated restriction of personal contacts have brought new user records to practically all online communication services. Not only in the business sector, but also privately people are increasingly meeting online in video conferences. Platforms that do not require registration are particularly well received – the easier the access, the better.

Skype has been the buzz for its Meet Now feature in the past few days, and you might almost think the Skype team reacted to the competition in record time. In fact, this function has been in development since last year, I had already written something about it: Skype without Skype.

Using the Skype app, you can start a meeting on any platform and generate an invitation link that you can then pass on to all participants. They do not need to have their own Skype account to attend the conference. If the Skype app is installed, it starts when you click on the link, otherwise you will be redirected to the web version of Skype.

Not even the organizer himself needs a Skype account, but then the organization has to run completely via the web interface. Access is via this page: Free phone and video conferencing with Skype.

The full range of functions of Skype is available to all participants. There is only one restriction: the guest accounts expire again after 24 hours and cannot be used permanently. But that’s not the point.
