Increasing trend of abuse among young people in Western Norway

– This does not occur in a specific environment, but among young people in general. We see children all the way down to the age of 13 who use or can be used for sexual services, either physically or via social media , says section leader Tore Salvesen in the West police district to days.

Earlier this month, the police in Agder went out in The Friend of the Fatherland and expressed concern about a growing trend of abuse among young people. NRK also discussed the case last week.

Salvesen says that they have also experienced an increase in the West police district. So far this year, they have received 49 abuse cases among young people. There are as many as in the whole of last year combined.

– This is a broad problem throughout Western Norway, also in our police district, says Salvesen.

He says that it is often older young people who exploit 12-13 year old girls who are unable to think about the long-term consequences of what they say yes to. The motive is first and foremost of an economic nature.
