Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh thanked the government and people of Canada for their support for Vietnam, for example for the donation of 120,000 N95 masks and an aid package of 2.9 million US dollars to the ASEAN Covid-19 fund.

Pham Minh Chinh suggested that both sides should focus on cooperation in some specific areas, such as responding to the Covid-19 pandemic. He asked Canada to support more than 20,000 Vietnamese students in that country who are affected by the pandemic and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community in Canada.

For his part, Justin Trudeau affirmed that Canada attaches great importance to friendship with Vietnam and wants to take the comprehensive partnership with Vietnam to a new level. He re-pledged to continue to work closely with Vietnam on trade and defense, and Vietnam and the other countries in the region on access to vaccines for the SARS-CoV-2 virus through mechanisms such as the ACT Accelerator, the COVAX Initiative and the Support ASEAN’s Covid-19 fund.

The two heads of government discussed the international and regional situation, including the East Sea issue, and they agreed to continue to cooperate closely in multilateral and regional forums such as the UN, APEC, ASEAN and Francophonie.
