Primark is preparing to open in Prague

Czech is also gradually appearing on Primark’s international website. So far, this is only a trial operation of the site, so information about the “early opening of the Primark Wenceslas Square 47 store” is displayed under the flag of the United States. The chain has not yet published a specific term.

“With the opening of retail, we can finally make progress in our plans to open our first branch in the Czech Republic. We believe that the COVID-19 pandemic will not cause further delays, “said Kateřina Outlá from the Grayling agency, representing Primark.

However, it is already clear that in the new building The Flow Building on the corner with Opletalova Street, Primark will offer a complete range of cheap women’s, men’s and children’s clothing, footwear and accessories, cosmetics, but also household items and confectionery on a total of 4,700 square meters.

Retail in trouble

Primark operates in 12 European countries and the United States, with a total of over 380 stores. Last year, the chain entered the Slovenian and Polish markets, and expansion to the Czech Republic was also announced. However, the spring and winter lockdowns ruined it here, even though for the first time Primark started recruiting employees for the Prague store.

Just before the outbreak of the pandemic, Primark signed leases for its second store in the Czech Republic. It should occupy 3,600 square meters of retail space in the Olympia shopping center in Brno. He also announced that the store would open in 2022.

During the year with the coronavirus, Primark lost competition on the Czech market. Although this does not apply to the Polish discount network with Pepco clothing and consumer goods or the German Kik, they operate mainly in retail parks and within small towns. However, several fashion chains have left shopping galleries and shops in the centers of large cities. The French brand Camaieu, which planned to close the stores before the pandemic, was among the first to withdraw from the market. In the following months, they were also followed by the French Promod and the British Next.

“Some shopping malls with a passage can be expected to have problems occupying vacant space with tenants who have ended up as a result of a pandemic,” said the recent Real Estate Market Analysis Trend Report 2021, published by the Association for Real Estate Market Development (ARTN).
