Union defies Bayern a draw – Frankfurt beats Wolfsburg

Berlin (dpa) – FC Bayern has weakened on the apparently safe path to the 31st German championship title. The record champion did not get beyond a 1: 1 (0: 0) against 1. FC Union Berlin and lost two points from his thick seven-point cushion on the 28th matchday of the Bundesliga.

Followers RB Leipzig, meanwhile, finished SV Werder Bremen away with 4: 1 (3: 0) and thus confirmed their lurking position in case of failures at Bayern. In the direct duel for third place, Eintracht Frankfurt prevailed 4: 3 (2: 1) against VfL Wolfsburg and are now in fourth place only one point behind Lower Saxony. Borussia Dortmund kept its minimal chance at the premier class with a 3-2 (0-1) win at VfB Stuttgart. In the fight against relegation, Hertha BSC in Berlin did not get more than a 2: 2 (1: 2) against Borussia Mönchengladbach despite an almost 80-minute excess.

As if Bayern coach Hansi Flick wasn’t annoyed enough by the questions about his future. The game against the Unioners didn’t really lift the mood either. Not a single shot on goal of the iron in the first half. Then Jamal Musiala (68th) took the lead – Bayern also scored a goal in the 64th competitive game in a row and further expanded the record in German professional football. But no trace of a good mood, because Union equalized in the 86th minute through Marcus Ingvartsen – 1: 1 – as in the first leg.

Anyone who doubted the Leipzig team’s determination after the supposedly decisive defeat against Bayern a week ago: It was in vain. Julian Nagelsmann’s team, which had been changed to five positions, made things clear in the first half. Dani Olmo took the 1-0 lead in the 23rd minute before Alexander Sørloth (32nd / 41st) made his first brace in his 25th Bundesliga appearance. Three shots on the opposing goal – three hits. The connection goal by Bremen’s Milot Rashica with a hand penalty (61st) answered the Leipzig by Marcel Sabitzer (63rd).

That’s what the Frankfurters are known for. Things like to be wild in the games with the Hessen – so also in the duel for the Champions League in the coming season. In the sixth minute, Frankfurt let the guests take the lead, Ridle Baku scored the goal. Two minutes later it was 1-1, Daichi Kamada was there. And less than twenty minutes later, the Hessians were in the lead thanks to Luka Jovic (27th). Striker Wout Weghorst (46th) equalized for Wolfsburg immediately after the break, but his Frankfurt counterpart, André Silva (54th), brought the hosts back into the lead a little later. Erik Durm (61st) scored the fourth goal in Frankfurt, before Tuta brought VfL back on with an own goal (85th).

Dortmund is still seven points behind the Frankfurters. Jude Bellingham (47th minute), Marco Reus (52nd) and Ansgar Knauff (80th) scored for the Revierclub. Sasa Kalajdzic (17th) and Daniel Didavi (78th) scored the goals for newly promoted Stuttgart. BVB celebrated a successful dress rehearsal for the quarter-final second leg in the premier class against Manchester City on Wednesday. BVB lost the first duel away 1: 2.

Outnumbered after a good ten minutes. In the lead after a good 20 minutes. It wasn’t enough for Hertha BSC to win. The team of coach Pal Dardai could neither use the red card against Borussia Mönchengladbach’s Torwat Yann Sommer (13th) and the associated shortage of guests, nor the 1-0 by Santiago Ascacíbar (23rd). The guests equalized just four minutes later through Alassane Pléa, before Lars Stindl let coach Marco Rose cheer on the sideline. After all: After the break, Jhon Cordoba at least managed to equalize.
