In Suriname, 1 person has died again in the past 24 hours as a result of infection with the dreaded corona virus. Monday was the number of dead at 169 and Tuesday it was 170. In addition, 11 new cases were registered after 130 tests. This is evident from the update of the figures on the Tuesday evening 23 February official COVID-19 website of the Surinamese government.
Despite these figures, the number of infections has decreased over the past period and the lockdown will be relaxed. From Wednesday, February 24, 2021 to Tuesday, March 9, 2021, the lockdown will start on weekdays at 10 p.m. On weekends the time has been extended by one hour to 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.
The first persons in Suriname were also vaccinated on Tuesday. Surinamese health minister Amar Ramadhin was the first to get in the country the corona vaccine was administered live.
