Kochi: The CBI will probe the disappearance case of Jasna Maria James. The CBI informed the court that it could take over the investigation. The court directed the crime branch to hand over the case diary and other files to the CBI. The documents are to be handed over to the CBI Thiruvananthapuram unit.

The CBI has said that there is something serious behind Jasna’s disappearance and that there is inter-state intervention.

KSU state president Abhijit and Jasna’s brother Jayce John filed the petition seeking a CBI probe. The government had told the court that all possible investigations were ongoing and that Jasna had not yet been located. However, the petitioners contended that there was no hope of finding Jasna through the Crime Branch investigation.

Jasna’s father James Joseph had lodged a complaint with the Prime Minister seeking a comprehensive inquiry into the case. The complaint was lodged with the Prime Minister on the pretext that nothing but rumors were coming out. Jasna’s father said no one was saying anything other than an indication that Jasna was alive.

Jesse Maria James went missing on March 20, 2018. The girl, who was told to go to her father’s sister’s house from Erumeli ‘s three – storey house in the morning, did not return. He was a second year BCom student of St. Dominic’s College, Kanjirapally.

First the local police and then the IG-led team conducted the investigation. The crime branch later took over the case. Police conducted investigations in Bengaluru, Pune, Goa and Chennai. More than 4,000 phone calls were scrutinized. Police data boxes were set up in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Idukki districts. The DGP had also announced a reward of Rs 5 lakh for information leading to Jesse’s death.
