If he is infected with Covid, we must first overcome the Covid disease, we cannot simultaneously give chemotherapy,” said doctor Tumpal in a live broadcast of the Health Ministry’s Health Radio, Monday (15/2/2021).

Cancer itself has made a person’s immune system weak. Coupled with the Covid-19 infection, of course it will further suppress the immune system, explained doctor Tumpal.

He said that giving chemotherapy drugs or cancer radiation would really drain the patient’s immune system.

“So if clinically showing symptoms of Covid, chemotherapy treatment must be postponed first,” he added.

Therefore, it is important to protect pediatric cancer patients from being exposed to the corona virus. Doctor Tumpal reminded that families must always ensure that patients have a good immune system by consuming nutritious food, getting enough rest, and getting enough activity.
