Will the devices still be worth it in 2021?

Pokémon GO has two devices, the GO Plus and the Poké Ball Plus, that help you catch monsters. We will tell you if it is still worth buying in 2021.

These gadgets try to: The GO Plus and Poké Ball Plus are licensed devices for Pokémon GO. Each one has a button that you can press and then use to catch Pokémon.

With gadgets you can leave your cell phone in your pocket and activate PokéStops and catch monsters with the push of a button. A Poké Ball is thrown on each catch. If the monster explodes, run away.

The GO Plus and Poké Ball Plus aren’t cheap either. We’ll show you if you should still play the devices in 2021 or if they are worth buying.

GO Plus and Poké Ball Plus: What Can Devices Do?

What can Pokémon GO Plus do? This device is quite small and fits in your pocket. There is exactly one button on the device. This lights up in different colors, depending on whether a new PokéStop, Pokémon, or Pokémon was targeted.

You can then press the button and the action will take place. Either the PokéStop or sand is turned or a Poké Ball is thrown at the monster.

The GO Plus has no other functions. Therefore, you cannot control anything else in the application through the device.

This is what Pokémon GO Plus looks like.

What can the Poké Ball Plus do? Generally speaking, the ball works the same as the GO Plus. It turns on and with the button on the top of the device you can activate a PokéStop or an arena or catch a Pokémon.

But there are small differences: with the Poké Ball Plus, the PokéStops can be rotated automatically if you program it in the settings. So you don’t have to press a button anymore. Pokémon, on the other hand, are only captured at the push of a button.

Also, the ball is bigger than the one on the GO Plus. Then it does not fit in all pockets.

The Poké Ball Plus also doubles as a joystick for the “Let’s Go! Eevee / Pikachu” switch game. With the white circle in the middle of the ball you can control your character on the switch.

This is the Poké Ball Plus.

Automatic capture with Pokémon GO Plus: is it possible? Automatic capture, meaning that the device catches the Pokémon without pressing a button, is not officially possible. However, with a little technical knowledge, there is the possibility to solder the GO Plus so that it latches automatically. However, Niantic does not intend to do so, so we do not recommend this step.

Pokémon GO Plus does not connect: The biggest problem with the GO Plus, but also the Poké Ball Plus, is the connection with Pokémon GO. With numerous mobile phones, there are always connection problems and the devices can barely or cannot be paired. Other phones, however, have no connection problems.

If these connection problems occur, a reboot is recommended. To do this, you must press the small button on the back of the GO Plus or the Poké Ball Plus. You can find detailed instructions on the Niantic website.

How much do GO Plus and Poké Ball Plus cost? The availability of the two devices is very limited. The GO Plus can only be found on Amazon, for example, from third-party vendors and no longer from the shipping giant.

The Poké Ball Plus, meanwhile, will be available on Amazon from March 9, 2021 and costs around 60 euros. We include both offers here:

Pokémon GO Plus Pokémon GO Plus * 1,958 ratings 79,99 EUR
Poké Ball Plus Poké Ball Plus * 4.883 ratings EUR 99.50 EUR 94.99

Numerous other stores also currently offer the two devices. However, these are often counterfeits that are not officially licensed. So keep your eyes peeled for the right devices.

Are there alternatives to GO Plus and Poké Ball Plus? Not officially. However, there is the gotcha, for example. This is a similar device that neither Nintendo nor Niantic sell. Pokémon GO doesn’t officially support it, but the connection works.

However, there is often a rumor that Niantic will block trainers using such devices. So far DLPrivateServer has not had any cases where a coach was banned due to an issue. Here you must decide for yourself if you want to take the risk.

GO Plus and Poké Ball Plus: Are the Devices Worth It?

These are the advantages: The big advantage is obvious: you can catch Pokémon without having your cell phone in hand. This is especially useful if you don’t want to roam the city openly with your phone in hand. Leave your hands in your pocket and use the device to catch the Pokémon.

You can also save your balls with GO Plus or Pokéball Plus. The device throws you exactly one ball; You can’t throw a ball further or stay with a Pokémon forever.

Anyone with a PokéStop or arena at home can also benefit from the device. Just let it go while sitting in the home office or relaxing on the couch. The device turns on the PokéStop for you and you get items without doing anything.

GO Plus VS Ball

These are the downsides: Anyone who always plays with their mobile phone in hand doesn’t really benefit from the GO Plus or the Poké Ball Plus anyway. It is not possible to catch it by hand and bag another Pokémon with the device at the same time. Devices always need a certain amount of time to realize that you are no longer active.

The numerous connection problems are also critical. So it might be that you buy the device and only have to struggle with connection errors in the end. Even if you are connected, the connection lasts a maximum of one hour. Anyway, you cannot leave the devices running overnight.

Another point of criticism is the development of the possibility of capture in Pokémon GO. Almost all sixth-generation Pokémon are difficult to catch. There are also monsters known as Kramurx, Sengo, Pantimos or Karadonis. Everyone rarely stays in a normal Poké Ball. So you have to expect tons of Pokémon to run away from you and to sacrifice one Poké Ball at a time.

So should you use the gadgets? That depends on the situation. If you’re out and about actively playing Pokémon GO, then GO Plus or Poké Ball Plus aren’t worth it. You are much more active when you catch the Pokémon by hand. With the catch trick you are even faster here.

However, if you often find yourself in situations where you have your cell phone next to you but cannot look at it permanently, then such a device is definitely worth using. With the push of a button, you could catch a Pokémon that you probably wouldn’t have seen otherwise.

But you should definitely test if such a device can be connected to your mobile phone. If there are major problems there, we advise against buying it.
