It took the experts at the American biotechnology company Moderna two days to develop their vaccine against Covid-19. According to CEO Stéphane Bancel, his team succeeded in designing the vaccine as early as mid-January 2020, shortly after the genetic sequence of the coronavirus was published by the Chinese authorities. This was followed by an accelerated approval process in which both safety and efficacy were thoroughly checked so that the vaccine can now be distributed to many millions of people.
