Artwork for corona victims destroyed in Roeselare: “It was not even officially inaugurated yet”

Yesterday, Berenice Dercykere received a phone call from the Ferm association that the artwork in the Geitepark was being destroyed by vandals. “It was not even officially inaugurated yet,” says Berenice, who is heartbroken. Ferm is setting up comfort areas all over Flanders in memory of people who have died from the corona virus. “Who does such a thing, it is incomprehensible”, says the chairwoman of the Roeselare department.

Paul Deschrijver, the artist who created the artwork, cannot reach it either. “It has been irreparably destroyed. It portrayed hope, hence it was facing heaven. Now it is broken on the ground. I am devastated myself. ”

There are security cameras on two sides of the Geitepark. The police are now investigating the images.
