The proposal on the responsibility of multinationals had been approved by the majority of voters who participated in the vote, with about 50.7 per cent, but not in the majority of the twenty-six cantons, a necessary requirement for the initiative to be approved. SwissInfo writes in fact that “only eight cantons and one semi-canton approved the proposal”, while “the majority of the cantons of German-speaking Switzerland took a united stand against the initiative”. It happened only ten times in the history of Switzerland that the majority of voters decided in one way and the majority of the cantons in another.
The initiative on financing the arms industry was rejected by a margin of around 11 points.
