“Cyberpunk 2077” is one of the most anticipated games this year, and while everything is in place for the current launch date, December 10, not to be missed, it now seems that the game’s first DLC will not be revealed as soon as originally intended.
CD Projekt Red president Adam Kiciński is said to have told investors that “The original plan was to do it before launch, but after the latest postponement we decided to wait until launch, so gamers can get the game, and then start talking about future projects. So, after launch. ” (via Seeking Alpha.)
It does not sound like there have been any changes in the pricing of these extensions of the game – we expect that it will be something similar to the case “The Witcher 3”, which received free DLC after launch – but the fact that the developers have had problems with to finish the main game this year means that the postponement of the launch of the first DLC package is not particularly surprising.
Waiting to reveal the DLC plans may end up being a plus for CD Projekt Red in the long run, as it provides the opportunity to maintain marketing, and keep the game fresh in the minds of both players and potential customers – like for example «Smash Bros UItimate» The DLC fighters that are added to the game only a few months apart. We expect that this DLC package will contain optional content such as extra missions and new ways to tailor characters, weapons and the like.
Of course, “The Witcher 3” also received a number of paid DLC packs, so we are not particularly surprised if we will eventually get a mix of both extra content that you have to pay for and free variants.
Projected launch date: 2077
“Cyberpunk 2077” was originally supposed to be released in April 2020, but was given a juicy postponement of five months, to ensure that the work would actually be completed on time. This was then extended to seven months, and then another month was thrown on the load, which led to the current launch date, December 10 – a full eight months after the game was originally to be launched.
Game development, however, is not a dance on roses, and we much rather see that we get an elaborate and completely finished product than that the developers appear punctual. If nothing else, “Cyberpunk 2077” will be so large and extensive that we will hardly remember much of the postponement from December 10 onwards – and the postponement, which lasted most of the year, meant that we had to spread our attention over others titles that also deserved attention, games that could have been completely swept off the field by the neon-infested boom at the forefront of “Cyberpunk 2077”.
There is so much CD Project Red has to put its fingers in after launch, not just DLC. After all, the game will also have next-generation versions PS5 and Xbox Series X.
Right now, since there is only a couple of weeks of waiting time left, we can hardly imagine that there will be more delays – and that we have to wait a few extra weeks for DLC is a small price to pay, if it means we actually get to play the main game in the days before Christmas.
