The letter from colleague Nurse Mirela reopens the discussion on the preparation of some Nursing Coordinators. There are even those of them who refuse to wear the protective mask.
Dear colleague Flavia,
I’m a nurse who is passing a situation identical to youa, only in my department the matter is getting worse among staff and patients. I was insulted by Nurse Coordinator and taken back by the head physician for having contested a decision that he did not respect the protocol for a patient Covid-19 positive.
Unfortunately, I think (although you shouldn’t) that there are several jobs where the same thing happens.
I imagine that by now we will have to resign ourselves to the presence of the Covid-positive patient (because we are in an emergency).
But what I don’t like is ignorance on the part of those who should set an example.
For the use of PPE I tell you only one thing: until recently (end of October) this Coordinator was not using the surgical mask.
We had to point this out further and threaten to send a possible report to the competent authorities.
We live badly between fear, double shift and ignorance (at times) of those around us.
Sometimes fear (for our loved ones, not so much for us – as nurses we know the risks – for patients and those around us), makes us angry, but we have always been there and have done our job professionally. .
Unfortunately, as you also say, “professionalism cannot be taught”.
A big hug.
Mirela, Nurse
