9-Year-Old Girl Builds ‘Mailbox to Heaven’ at Cemetery After Her Grandparents Passed Away

Erabaru.net. A little girl made headlines after helping create a ‘mailbox to heaven’ to help people say goodbye to their loved ones.

9-year-old Matilda Handy from England was heartbroken after her grandmother and grandfather recently passed away.

Since her ordeal, the little girl has suggested setting up a mailbox where people can send private letters and say their last goodbyes to their loved ones in complete privacy.

The idea was quickly adopted by Gedling Crematorium in Nottinghamshire and the post boxes they installed have collected over a hundred “letters to heaven”.

“It was really good because I was so sad and it was a really nice way to express how I felt and to send letters to them and to tell them how much I love them,” said Matilda after the idea was realized.

The special post boxes were also well received by the local community with Matilda’s mother, Leanne, admitting that people always approached them to ask if they could also deliver their own letters.

“Like all Westerleigh Group sites, it is our goal to have a very positive presence in our local community, and I am delighted that the Letters to Heaven post box seems to have captured the imagination – and interest – of so many people,” site crematorium manager, Giulia McDonough, stated. .

Crematorium also clarified that postage was not needed as the mailboxes were serviced by the company and not by Royal Mail.

They also shared the good news that the mailbox has already collected over a hundred letters and thousands of people seem to like the idea on social media.
