An average of 79.1 Covid patients were hospitalized every day over the past week. This is an increase of 41 percent compared to the seven days before. This is apparent from the preliminary figures of health institute Sciensano on Wednesday.

A total of 947 people with Covid-19 are now in hospital (+24 percent), of whom 230 are in intensive care (+14 percent).
Between October 10 and 16, there were an average of 3,151 corona infections in our country every day, an increase of 50 percent compared to the seven days before. More than 1.3 million people have been infected with the virus since the start of the pandemic.
The number of infections is increasing in all provinces. Outlier is the province of West Flanders, where the number of infections more than doubled (+115 percent) between 10 and 16 October. But also in Limburg (+74 percent), Walloon Brabant (+69 percent), East Flanders (+67 percent), Hainaut (+59 percent), Antwerp (+57 percent) and Namur (+53 percent). virus is on the rise again.
On average, approximately 49,700 tests are taken every day (+12 percent). The positivity ratio has risen to 6.6 percent. The reproduction number rose to 1.26. A number above 1 means the epidemic is gaining momentum.
Between October 10 and 16, 11.1 people died from the virus every day, an increase of 13 percent. A total of 25,797 people have already died from the consequences of a corona infection.
