On November 1, 1946, commotion reigned in front of Toronto’s Maple Leaf Gardens. The famous hockey franchise doesn’t play until the next day, yet it’s game night in the Canadian hall. The city’s new basketball team, the Huskies, host the New York Knicks for the first game of the Basketball Association of America (BAA). The other teams involved in the BAA start their season the next day. This very young league will take its final name in 1949: the NBA.
