711,000 vehicles left Jakarta heading east for Eid Al-Fitr, an 8.7% increase from last year, with trans-Java toll road seeing high traffic.

State-owned toll road operator PT Jasa Marga has recorded an 8.7% increase in the number of vehicles heading east out of Jakarta on the D-7 until D-2 of Eid Al-Fitr, compared to the same period in 2022. This 168.5% increase in traffic on average was also in accordance with the Ministry of Transportation’s prediction that private vehicles would be the mode of transportation used most by people during the homecoming period, with expectations to see 27.32 million such vehicles mobilised. The trans-Java toll road remained the top choice for most car users during this period. Lisye Octaviana, Jasa Marga’s Head of Corporate Communication and Community Development Group, noted that the increased traffic had led to the second-highest number of traffic Jasa Marga has ever recorded during the homecoming period, with 153,590 vehicles passing through as of Thursday, 20 April 2023. This figure represented a 13.36% increase over the number recorded during the peak of Eid Al-Fitr in 2022, which saw 135,487 vehicles pass through.
