708 corona patients on intensive care, regular IC capacity now sufficient NOW

The number of Dutch corona patients in intensive care (IC) fell by 27 on Saturday to 708, writes chairman Ernst Kuipers of the National Network Acute Care. This number falls within the normal IC capacity.

Of the Dutch corona patients on IC, 680 are in the Netherlands. The number of Dutch corona patients on German ICs remained the same at 28.

“Overall IC occupancy with 1,098 patients in the Netherlands is within normal IC capacity again,” Kuipers continues. “That gives the IC employees room to catch their breath.”

Diederik Gommers, chairman of the Dutch Association of Intensive Cares, said earlier BNR that if there are less than seven hundred corona patients in intensive care, the operating rooms and the recovery rooms can be used again for their intended purpose.

“In fact, normal hospital life can then be resumed,” says Gommers. This assumes five hundred IC places for people who do not have the corona virus.

According to Kuipers, the figures have been showing for several days that regular care is being restarted. He expects that next week ‘only’ five hundred IC beds will be occupied with corona patients.
