61 years have passed since the pilgrimage of Jesús Nazareno to Antigua Guatemala – Publinews – 2024-03-05 10:34:01

It was in 1963 when a great pilgrimage was held from Guatemala City to the ruins of the Parish of Candelaria, in Antigua Guatemala, with the image of Jesús Nazareno de Candelaria, to commemorate his fourth centenary. The visit was captured with impressive images.

The solemn pilgrimage was carried out on the occasion of 400 years of veneration of the image of Jesús de Candelaria, Christ the King.

This was the first time that the very ancient and miraculous image of the Virgin of Dolores del Cerro left the Parish of Our Lady of Candelaria, which also visits the colonial city.

“Both images were exposed for veneration by the people who accompanied them and, at a special request, a vigil was held for the prompt canonization of Brother Pedro de Betancourt, in which the Blessed Sacrament of the Altar was exposed for adoration by hundreds of faithful,” They remember cones from Guatemala.

According to devotees, one of the most special moments of the pilgrimage was when, in a procession, Jesús de Candelaria passed in front of the Holy Cathedral of Antigua Guatemala. “It was a moment in which ‘El Perdon’ was sung and then he headed towards the El Matasano bridge as he returned to his temple of Candelaria in the city,” they explained.

Hundreds of faithful waited with rockets late at night for Jesús de Candelaria on his return to the Candelaria neighborhood in the Nueva Guatemala de la Asunción, thus concluding the historic visit that marks its 61st anniversary on March 3, 2024.
