(Belga) The NBA, the North American basketball league, fined the Brooklyn Nets $50,000 on Monday for violating New York City’s health protocol with their player Kyrie Irving, not vaccinated against the coronavirus.
According to the city’s health protocol, Irving can attend home games in the hall but cannot play, take a seat on the bench or go to the locker room because he is not vaccinated against the coronavirus. Last Sunday, the point guard took his place in the front row of the Barclays Center to watch his team’s victory in the derby against the New York Knicks. Irving then joined his teammates in the locker room and the Nets were fined $50,000. Irving, 29, had decided against getting the coronavirus shot in support of people who had lost their jobs because they weren’t vaccinated. Eligible only for matches played outside New York, the 2016 NBA champion with Cleveland was first dismissed by the Nets before returning to the group in December. (Belga)
