5 Ways to Prevent Recurrence of Autoimmune Inflammatory Bowel Disease – All Pages

Aggressive nutritional support can promote growth in pediatric patients with IBD.

GridHEALTH.id – Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is one of 100 types autoimmune disease which describes disorders associated with inflammation of the gastrointestinal or gastrointestinal tract, particularly autoimmune inflammatory bowel conditions.

Temporary autoimmune disease is a condition in which the body’s immune system or immune system attacks the body itself.

MCF Medical Expert Board, Prof.Dr.dr. Zakiudin Munatsir SpA(K) said, “IBD consists of two types of diseases, namely Crohn’s Disease (PC) and Ulcerative Colitis (KU).

KU is a chronic inflammation of the innermost lining of the large intestine or colon, while PC, also known as Crohn’s Disease, is an inflammation that occurs throughout the digestive system, from the mouth to the rectum,” he said in the webinar ‘Knowing Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) in Anak’, in collaboration with Marisza Cardoba Foundation – Darya Varia Laboratoria on Saturday (10/09/2021).

More Prof. Zakiudin Munatsir explained, “In people with KU or PC, ulcers often appear in the intestinal tract. An ulcer is a tear or tear in the lining of the intestine that can cause pain or bleeding.”

According to the doctor who is also active in fostering tens of thousands of People With Autoimmune (ODAI) at MCF, the exact cause of the gastrointestinal inflammation is unknown, but it is thought to be related to immune system disorders.

1. Implement a balanced nutritional diet

Choose healthy food sources, whole nutrition (minimal process), and natural (free of artificial substances such as preservatives, coloring, flavoring, etc.), and gluten free.

Aggressive nutritional support can improve growth parameters in pediatric patients with IBD.

All children with IBD require appropriate nutritional assessment and support to minimize growth retardation due to malnutrition.

During acute exacerbations of IBD, parenteral nutrition may be required but has the associated disadvantage of being more invasive and more expensive.

IBD patients are also at risk for vitamin and mineral deficiencies, including iron, calcium, vitamin D, vitamin B12, and folic acid. Calcium supplements are the best way to prevent bone disease.

2. Exercise regularly and get enough rest

Both of these activities will restore normal bowel function and also reduce stress.

3. Positive and supportive communication within the family

Children with IBD are susceptible to significant psychosocial stress, emotional and behavioral problems, and unexpected lifestyle changes due to relapse.

Difficulty interacting with peers can also occur due to absence from school and can be exacerbated by low self-esteem due to delayed growth and development.

Therefore, exchanging ideas and sharing experiences to overcome this problem is very necessary in addition to maybe having to consult a psychiatrist or psychologist.

4. Build the habit of writing a daily journal

Identify the triggers for the recurrence of IBD symptoms by recording all activities/intakes that are felt comfortable or uncomfortable. Avoid those that cause an uncomfortable reaction.

5. Regularly go to the doctor

Health conditions must always be monitored. If an infection occurs, it must be treated completely.

“Parents are expected to pay attention and be careful if their children experience complaints of abdominal pain accompanied by nausea and a weakened physical condition in order to be aware that IBD in children can cause permanent growth and development disorders,” concluded Prof. Zakiudin Munatsir.
