The government strengthens local justice by injecting 41 million euros into the justice budget and by creating 914 new positions in France, including five in the Landes: three at the court of Mont-de-Marsan, and two for that of Dax. The goal: to judge small cases more quickly.
Speed up the processing of petty crimes, such as nighttime noise, insults or degradation
Since the beginning of December, 5 new posts have existed in the courts of Dax and Mont-de-Marsan to settle small offenses more quickly, such as nocturnal noise, insults, degradations, but also threats or the consumer credit business. “In Dax, the court welcomed two category B agents, to help the proper functioning of criminal justice, but who could also come to the aid of local civil justice.“, precise Florence Bouvier, president of the court of Dax.
Among the three new positions opened at the Tribunal de Grande Instance of Mont-de-Marsan, there is a position in civil matters, an agent responsible for improving the handling of small matters, proximity litigation. It can be small business of less than 10,000 euros or even consumer credit business.

Another post has been created within the juvenile court, to improve the link between the different institutions responsible for taking care of minors. Finally, a third position is open, a post of assistant lawyer, attached to the prosecution, responsible for supporting the processing of small cases managed by the prosecutor’s delegates.
“These agents must give more fluidity in the organization of hearings, reduce the waiting time for the litigant and the processing time.“, Explain Guillaume Cotelle, president of the Tribunal de Grande Instance of Mont-de-Marsan. “Mass litigation justice represents a large volume of cases, small stakes in financial terms, but big stakes in terms of importance in people’s daily lives.“
Open a court office in Biscarrosse
These positions could also allow the court to carry out a project: open a court office in Biscarrosse. Guillaume Cotelle sees it as an opportunity to strengthen local justice, by judging petty crimes : “We are talking about crimes whose seriousness is quite minimal, involving people who have no previous criminal record.. This project, if the means allow it, could see the light of day in about six months. “
Still a real lack of staff within the tribunal
These new positions are a relief for Guillaume Cotelle. But according to the president of the court of Mont de Marsan, they do not make it possible to fill the real shortages of resources humans present for several years within his tribunal: “We have 56 civil servant positions, which is still very tight. We have been working on Mont-de-Marsan for over a year with chronic staff shortages ranging from minus 20 to minus 25%. And beyond this lack of means, it is the precariousness of these positions that worries us.“
