5 meteor showers in November, here’s the program and how to watch it!

KOMPAS.com – Phenomenon meteor shower re-adorns the night sky throughout November 2022.

National Agency for Research and Innovation (BRIN) Space Research Center researcher Andi Pangerang revealed that there will be five rains meteor in November 2022.

“There are five meteor showers for the month of November,” said Andi a Kompas.comThursday (3/11/2022).

The five meteor showers can be observed without the aid of optical aids or only with the naked eye.

Meteor shower it is itself the phenomenon of the fall of many meteors and passes through the surface of the Earth, so much so that it looks like rain.

Meteor, according to Andi, it is the aspect of the path of the meteorite that falls into the earth’s atmosphere. This aspect is caused by the heat of the ram pressure.

“This is the pressure on an object that passes at high speed when it enters the Earth’s atmosphere,” he said.

Here are the details of five meteor showers in November 2022:

1. Andromedide

Andromedid is a meteor shower whose radiant point or point of origin of its aspect is in the constellation of Andromeda.

According to Andi, this meteor shower has actually occurred since October 27, 2022 and will end on November 17, 2022.

However, the maximum intensity at the new zenith will occur on November 6, 2022, which is 3 meteors / hour.

“The intensity in Indonesia is reduced to 1 meteor / hour because the height of the radiant point during the transit is between 42-59 degrees above the northern horizon,” Andi said.

The Andromedid meteor shower can be seen across Indonesia from the northeast after sunset on November 5, 2022.

Then, Andromedid will eventually sink in a northwest direction at dawn on November 6, 2022.

2. Northern Taurid

The Northern Taurids are a meteor shower with a radiant point in the northern constellation of Taurus near the Pleiades star cluster.

This meteor shower will be active from October 20 to December 10, 2022 and will peak on November 13, 2022.

At the height of peak nights, Northern Tauris has a maximum intensity of 5 meteors / hour.

According to Andi, this meteor shower can also be seen across Indonesia from the east after sunset on November 12, 2022.

The peak can still be seen until it sinks in the northwest before sunrise on November 13, 2022.

“The intensity in Indonesia is only 3-4 meteors per hour because the height of the radiant point during the transit is between 57-74 degrees above the northern horizon,” Andi explained.

3. Leonides

The third meteor shower to grace the November sky is Leonid, with a radiant point in the constellation Leo.

Andi explained that Leonid only started to be active on November 6-30, 2022 with intensity varying between 10-15 meteors / hour at the zenith of November 18.

In Sabang, Aceh, Leonid’s intensity reaches 9-14 meteors / hour. While at Rote Ndao, NTT, the intensity varies between 7-11 meteors / hour.

“This is because the height of the radiant point before sunrise is between 53-70 degrees above the northern horizon,” he explained.

Meteor showers can be seen all over Indonesia from the northeast onwards November 18, 2022 midnightand it will darken in the north before dawn.
