5-Day New York Itinerary – Explore Manhattan, Chinatown, Meatpacking, Brooklyn & More

New York will always be New York. Or almost. Because if a visit begins in Manhattan, the island is not frozen behind its skyline! The Big Apple is moving, quickly, all the time and so much so that you also have to visit other neighborhoods, Brooklyn in the lead. Here’s how to organize your stay.

The world city is only an 8-hour flight from France. Welcome to New York, the favorite American destination of the French, in all seasons! But whether you know it or are setting foot there for the first time, know that you will never know NYC completely. The largest city in the United States, full of energy, never stands still.

The different neighborhoods, or boroughswhich make up the city can be easily discovered on foot, or by metro, over 5 days perfectly planned to make you experience the best of the city that never sleeps.

Step 1: Manhattan

We land at JFK airport in New York. To take the pulse of the city, we head to the island of Manhattan, its main boroughwhich concentrates some of the unmissable attractions of the Big Apple.

  • Stroll along the very chic 5th Avenue and stop in front of Saint-Patrick’s Cathedral to admire its neo-Gothic architecture;
  • Go up 5th Avenue to Bryant Park where the sublime New York Public Library is located, one of the largest public libraries in the country (free admission);
  • Climb to the top of the iconic Empire State Building and enjoy a breathtaking panorama of NYC or contemplate the New York skyline at sunset from Top of the Rock, the terrace of the main Rockefeller Center skyscraper;
  • Immortalize yourself in front of the neon lights and giant screens that light up Times Square at nightfall.

Step 2: Lower Manhattan

We continue our immersion in the hectic borough by the discovery of Lower Manhattan, the southern part of the island. Before walking the famous streets of the Financial District, we board a ferry to go to the islands of the Upper Bay.

  • Admire the majestic Statue of Liberty from Battery Park, the departure point for ferries to Liberty Island, where you can visit the monument;
  • Go to Ellis Island, once a gateway for European migrants, and visit the National Immigration Museum;
  • Stroll among the skyscrapers of Wall Street, headquarters of the New York Stock Exchange, and take a photo in front of the Charging Bull, an imposing bull sculpture located north of Bowling Green Park;
  • Reflect at the September 11 Memorial and visit the museum dedicated to the victims of the World Trade Center attacks.

Step 3: New York museum side

1 day – Art – Culture

Beyond its remarkable monuments, New York is famous for housing some of the most prestigious museums in the world. We take advantage of this day to visit the must-see museums of the Midtown district and to discover the charms of Broadway nightlife.

  • Admire the remarkable architecture of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and discover one of the richest collections of contemporary art in the world;
  • Visit the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the largest art museum in the United States, and admire its fabulous collections totaling more than two million works of art;
  • Discover the works of Van Gogh, Picasso, Matisse, Jackson Pollock and Andy Warhol exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA);
  • Stroll among the lush vegetation of Central Park, the green lung of New York and one of the largest urban parks on the planet;
  • Open the doors of one of the many Broadway theaters to attend a musical.

Étape 4 : Chinatown, Meatpacking & Harlem

On the program for this day, the discovery of the emblematic districts of New York. From Chinatown, in the south of Manhattan, to Harlem, in the north, we soak up the charms of each of these neighborhoods where we enjoy strolling.

  • Shop in the stalls of Chinatown and savor Italian specialties in the restaurants of Little Italy, the neighboring district;
  • Stroll on the High Line, a linear and suspended urban park that crosses the Meatpacking District, one of the trendiest neighborhoods in New York;
  • Explore the Harlem neighborhood, cradle of jazz, and attend a gospel mass celebrated in one of the many churches every Sunday morning.

Step 5: Brooklyn

From Manhattan, we cross the iconic Brooklyn Bridge to reach the borough eponymous and discover its trendy neighborhoods where New York hipsters like to hang out.

  • Admire the street art and graffiti displayed on the walls of the Bushwick neighborhood
  • Soak up the charms of the Williamsburg district by strolling through its streets lined with cafes, bars and vintage boutiques;
  • Admire the brownstonesthe red sandstone houses typical of New York, while strolling through the Brooklyn Heights neighborhood and enjoying a superb view of Manhattan at the end of the day from the promenade that runs along the Hudson River.

If time permits, we can’t resist going to Coney Island to have fun on the rides at Luna Park and relax on the fine sand of the beach.

Then head to the airport to board the return flight to France, with the furious desire to return. New York will surely have already changed.
