5 books to always remember William Klein

We can’t think of a better way to remember William Klein – who recently passed away – than to lay an egg in our particular library for one of his books. It is not easy to choose between how much of his work has been published, but we have kept this half dozen copies that seem particularly interesting to us.

Celebration

Taking advantage of its latest retrospective exhibition in Spain, La Fábrica has reissued this marvelous Celebration in its Spanish version.

Klein himself makes a tour of his career to select the images that make up this book which includes photographs of New York, Rome, Moscow, Paris or Madrid.

Furthermore, an important aspect of the volume are the texts in which the author reflects on the act of photography, and all that this discipline has brought him, which has accompanied him throughout his life. It is about 30 euros.

Photo pocketPhoto pocket

An almost mythical and not always easy to find book – it seems that now it is – this is what the National Center of Photography of France has dedicated to Klein in its famous collection Photo pocket.

A small book, with some of his best images up to 2008 and at a very reasonable price, less than 20 euros.

ABCABC

Big words are this ABC, one of those books worth having if you’re a big fan of Klein in his street and fashion photographer facet. Although it is a retrospective until 2013, the truth is that it is the first book published about him in the United States in 20 years.

It is not cheap –That’s about 55 euros– but it is a nice gift for collectors and great admirers of the photographer.

Brooklyn + KleinBrooklyn + KleinAfter many years living in New York, the city where he was born, the photographer moved to Paris after the Second World War. Despite this, New York has remained one of his iconic places to photograph again and again.

In this volume, thanks to Sony’s Ambassador program, the brand commissioned him to document the New York neighborhood of Brooklyn in 2013. A more modern vision, from a broader perspective than Klein.

A book that perhaps does not remember so much its early decades, but which shows us a more reflective and documentary-oriented Klein, but always with his sarcastic air. It is located for just over 40 euros.

YESYES

Although there is still a long way to go before the release on the market, the publishing house Thames & Hudson is preparing one shot with more than 250 images of Klein’s entire career, which includes photography, painting, photo, design …

The book was already planned before the author’s death, but now it appears to have been delayed. It could end up being a tribute book, although we’ll have to wait until early next year to find out. The most impatient can already book it for around 60 euros.
