October 2020, Nitra is in 3rd place in the Fortuna League ahead of Trnava or Žilina. August 2022, Nitra receives a fine of 800 euros for not traveling to the opening match of the 4th league to Lednické Rovní.

The problems in the traditional club from Zobor have been accumulating for a long time, but from the spring of 2021 it is falling into ruin at the speed of light. He hit rock bottom a couple of times in the meantime. However, rather than recoil, he broke through it and discovered new ones. How is it today?

They don’t even make up the starting eleven

Nitra, which managed to beat Slovan Bratislava in the top competition less than two years ago at Tehelno poli, did not show up in the village of four thousand people for a simple reason. He has no players.

According to the chairman of the board and general manager Martin Pešek (one of the culprits of the downfall of FC Nitra), the club has eight registered footballers. In fact, there should be even fewer of them.

Others may not be added due to debts to former players. The ban also applies to the registration of teenagers, although they left in droves anyway. The club did not meet the conditions for maintaining the status of the academy.

They owe the players almost half a million

The debt to former players amounts to approximately 420,000 euros. He revealed more to MY Nitraske noviny member of the FIFA Dispute Resolution Chamber and legal advisor of the Union of Football Professionals Peter Lukášek: “We are working on an agreement. FC Nitra does not have the full amount of debt to pay, but the players are willing to give the club a chance to settle their debts.

They are willing to give up about 30 percent. In the eventual agreement, the club has committed to pay the debt at the level of approximately 70 percent of the claims against 26 creditors. If the club pays the first installment by Tuesday, August 9, transfers will be unblocked.”

Further installments are due in September, January, March, April, May and July 2023. A total of roughly 294,000. However, Peter Lukášek points out: “If FC Nitra is in arrears with even one installment, the entire debt of approx. 420,000 euros will be due.”

Avoid bankruptcy. They will probably never see the money again

Since Nitra did not generate income and did not pay its obligations even during its time in the top competition, it is utopia to hope that this will change in the 4th league. “There is always a risk of unblocking transfers against the payment of only a minimal part of the total debt, but the players understand that if they do not do so, the club has no way of generating money to pay off the debts.

Moreover, since Nitra is in the fourth, exclusively amateur league and almost all youth players have left the club, the creditors have little hope of seeing their money. However, they are willing to give new shareholders a chance to save a club with a long history from bankruptcy,” explained Peter Lukášek.

What next?

“The situation is really bad. There are too many big problems in Nitra for me to see the prospect of improvement. I quit,” he said last November, Swede Slobodan Jovanovič made a disturbing death after less than a month in the position of chairman of the board of directors.

The club is pushing a boulder of debts from the past and, directly or indirectly, accumulating new ones. The light at the end of the tunnel is not even blinking yet.

In addition to the financial sanction for not traveling to the opening match of the new year, Nitra was punished with a forfeit loss. She can afford one more, in the case of a third disqualification, according to the competition rules, she will be automatically excluded from the league, and in the case of a return, she will start from the lowest competition.

According to the schedule, Nitra hosts Gabčíkovo on Sunday from 17:00. Will there be anyone to play with?
