4th Bundesliga matchday: Hertha BSC scores the first points, Eintracht Frankfurt still without a win

Bayern Munich defeated rivals RB Leipzig without humor. In Leverkusen, the game against Dortmund ends with a seven-goal spectacle. And VfL Wolfsburg remains unbeaten – an overview of the 4th Bundesliga matchday.

VfL Bochum – Hertha BSC 1: 3

Hertha BSC celebrated their first win of the season. Thanks to two goals from Suat Serdar, the Berlin team won 3-1 (2-0) at newly promoted VfL Bochum. Serdar, who came from FC Schalke 04, scored his first Bundesliga brace in the 37th and 43rd minutes. In his Bundesliga debut, new signing Myziane Maolida (78th) scored the third goal. Simon Zoller (59th) marked the interim goal for the hosts. As a result of the success, the team of coach Pal Dardai improved with three points after four match days from last place to 15th place. The tied Bochumers remain two places ahead of the Berliners due to the better goal difference.

SC Freiburg – 1.FC Cologne 1: 1

Cologne missed the next sense of achievement at SC Freiburg because of a last-minute own goal from unlucky Rafael Czichos. With his unfortunate action in the 89th minute, the defender prevented a victory for the Rhinelander and made it 1: 1 (1: 0) late. Striker Anthony Modeste (34th) had put the guests in the lead with another header. Shortly before the end, Czichos then steered a cross from Freiburg’s Noah Weißhaupt into his own network. After midfielder Florian Kainz was sent off, the strong Cologne team were outnumbered in the 74th minute.

SpVgg Greuther Fürth – VfL Wolfsburg 0-2

Coach Mark van Bommel continued the Wolfsburg record start in the Bundesliga in Fürth. Four games, four wins – Lower Saxony have never entered a first division season so brilliantly. The new VfL coach was able to calmly follow the clarified 2-0 (1-0) of the league leaders against the still winless promoted SpVgg Greuther Fürth on the sidelines. Wolfsburg don’t celebrate football, but they work as a collective. The guests largely managed the early lead, they did not play resolutely to make it 2-0.

Bayer Leverkusen – Borussia Dortmund 3-4

Borussia Dortmund gave coach Marco Rose a football spectacle and a furious victory for his 45th birthday. BVB’s 4: 3 (1: 2) after falling three times at Bayer Leverkusen was probably the best and most entertaining game of this Bundesliga season so far, tearing the 17,605 spectators from their seats. Thanks to a double pack from Erling Haaland, he ultimately won and celebrated the third win of the season. Florian Wirtz brought Bayer into the lead early on (9th) and also made it 2-1 through Patrik Schick (45th + 1). Bayers third lead was achieved by Moussa Diaby (55th) ten days after his international debut for world champions France.

TSG Hoffenheim – FSV Mainz 05 0:2

Hoffenheim looked bad again against Mainz 05. The Kraichgauer lost 0: 2 (0: 1) and enabled the team of coach Bo Svensson to win their third win in a row in Sinsheim. In front of just 8,427 spectators – including the new national coach Hansi Flick from nearby Bammental – U21 European champion Jonathan Burkhardt (21st minute) and newcomer Marcus Ingvartsen met just one minute after being substituted on (78th). In March of this year there was a 2: 1 for the FSV at Hoffenheim, in 2019 they even won 5: 1.

Eintracht Frankfurt – VfB Stuttgart 1: 1

Eintracht Frankfurt is still waiting for the first win of the season in the Bundesliga. The Europa League participants didn’t get more than 1: 1 (0: 0) against VfB Stuttgart. This means that Eintracht now has three points, and VfB is one point better. Filip Kostic, who two weeks ago caused a stir with his change request, brought Eintracht into the lead in the 79th minute. But Omar Marmoush managed to equalize in the final phase (88th), although the Stuttgart team were outnumbered at the time after a red card for Waldemar Anton (82nd).

Union Berlin – FC Augsburg 0:0

FC Augsburg didn’t make it either. 1. FC Union Berlin cannot be beaten in Bundesliga home games. Within a year, the Eiserne have not granted any of the 17 opponents a three in the stadium at the Alte Försterei. Against FC Augsburg, which was the last visiting club to win in Berlin-Köpenick 357 days ago, Union came to a hard-fought 0-0 in front of 10,207 spectators. Before the first European Cup group game in the Conference League at Slavia Prague on Thursday, coach Urs Fischer’s team continued a series. In addition to the total of 19 Bundesliga home games, Union has been unbeaten in three competitions in nine games across all seasons.

RB Leipzig – Bayern Munich 1: 4

FC Bayern clearly won the top game in the Bundesliga at runner-up RB Leipzig. The Munich team won well deserved 4-1 (1-0) and gave their new coach Julian Nagelsmann a successful return to his previous place of work. Robert Lewandowski gave the guests the lead in the 12th minute with a hand penalty in front of 34,000 spectators, Jamal Musiala (47th) and Leroy Sané (54th) ensured an early preliminary decision. Konrad Laimer’s great long shot hit (58th) no longer helped the Leipzigers. The final score went to Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting (90th + 2). Now with ten points Bayern are second in the table, RB is stuck with three points in the midfield.
