48th MUSEG Segovia Music Festival Continues Amid General Election Day

Although it is General Election day, the 48th MUSEG Segovia Music Festival does not stop. Tonight, while the ballot boxes are being opened, the votes counted and the first counts made, the Alcázar de Segovia will witness the concert of the ‘Segovia Classical Music Summer Academy’, the city’s historic music course that brings together an extraordinary cast of teachers and artists every summer.

The concert also coincides with the opening day of this year’s course. And four of the musicians who will be there will be the protagonists of a magical evening at the Alcázar: the Madrid violinist Erica Ramallo, the Polish cellist Mikolaj Konopelsk and the pianists Phoenix Kim-Park (South Korean) and Manuel Tévar (also from Madrid). All of them nationally and internationally recognized artists and winners of various awards.

In the first part of the concert, they will perform compositions by various 19th century musicians: Claude Debussy, William Grant Still, Florence Price and Isaac Albéniz. The second part will be dedicated entirely to the mythical German composer of the 18th and 19th centuries Ludwig van Beethoven, whose powerful rhythms from the classical and romantic periods will resound at night in the Alcázar starting at 10:00 p.m. (entrance price 12 euros for all audiences).

Previously, even with daylight at 1:30 p.m., the Marugán church will offer the second concert of the students of the MUSEG organ course. A way to discover the rich instrumental heritage of the province and the city of Segovia. In this small contest, the students of the aforementioned course will perform music from different eras for 30 minutes, as happened yesterday in the church of Martín Miguel. Two concerts held in collaboration with the Correa de Arauxo Association.

The students of the organ course will play in the church of Marugán.

Yesterday it was also possible to see the second and last performance at this festival of ‘El retablo de Maese Pêdro’, the opera by Manuel de Falla performed spectacularly for large puppets under the direction of José Luis López Antón.
