430 corona patients in intensive care on New Year’s Eve – Berlin.de

430 people with Covid-19 are in intensive care units in Berlin hospitals at the turn of the year. 287 of them are invasively ventilated, according to the statistics of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine (Divi) on Thursday. According to the management report of the Berlin health administration, almost 34 percent of Berlin’s intensive care beds are occupied with Covid 19 cases, which still corresponds to the color red in the Berlin traffic light warning system.

According to the management report, 643 corona cases were newly reported on New Year’s Eve – however, the Treptow-Köpenick and Pankow districts did not report any new numbers. The trend in weekly new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in Berlin is declining and is currently 135.1 – this still corresponds to a red corona traffic light. Because of the holidays, it is difficult to say whether the infections will actually decrease. Significantly fewer laboratory tests were carried out in the Christmas week. Many doctor’s offices are closed. Delay in reporting to the authorities is also likely to be an aspect.

The total number of corona cases in Berlin since spring is now 97 442. 77 560 of these are considered recovered. A total of 1,271 people died in connection with the virus, 24 more than the previous day.
