Arrhythmia is a heart rhythm disorder because the electrical flow of the heart does not function optimally. This cardiovascular disease has various types depending on the speed of the heart rate, such as tachycardia, bradycardia, heart block and the most common is atrial fibrillation (AF). If a person has a type of AF arrhythmia, he is five times more likely to have a stroke.
The main cause of arrhythmias is the rather severe damage to the structure of the heart or the impact of some viruses, such as COVID-19. In some cases, this disease can be triggered by excessive alcohol consumption, smoking, consuming large amounts of caffeine, using certain medications, and changes in body posture.
Signs of arrhythmia

1. Heart palpitations
The signs that are often experienced by people with arrhythmia are heart palpitations or palpitations. In addition to the chest, this condition can spread to the neck or throat. Although it lasts for a short time, this condition makes the sufferer uncomfortable and destroys the focus of work.
In reality, palpitations aren’t a worrying enough sign. Heart palpitations can be caused by other things, such as strenuous exercise, lack of sleep, feelings of anxiety, alcohol or caffeine consumption. In some cases, this condition is also triggered by anemia and hyperthyroidism.
2. Vertigo
Although the situation is not too serious and emergency, dizziness will cause a person to lose balance and fall. This can lead to cardiac arrest and even death if not treated quickly.
“Cardiac arrest can occur due to electrical abnormalities of the heart muscle or what we often call arrhythmias, so treatment must be done quickly,” said Dr. Titus Kurnia Hariadi, SpJP, FIHA, cardiologist at Primaya PGI Cikini Hospital. when he met in Central Jakarta on Wednesday (11/02/2022).
