4 Indonesian Subway Facts Open Today, Menu and Prices

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Subway Indonesia officially reopened starting today, Friday (15/10). The first location of the largest sandwich restaurant from the United States is located on the 1st floor of Cilandak Town Square (Citos), South Jakarta.

“We are very excited to bring Subway back to Indonesia, this time with a bigger concept,” said Anthony Cottan, President Director of PT Map Boga Adiperkasa Tbk, in a private preview event on Thursday (14/10) yesterday.

Here are the facts about Subway Indonesia, which has reopened after 21 years of permanent closure.

1. History of Subway in Indonesia

Around the 1990s, Subway had opened a restaurant chain in Indonesia. However, in the early 2000s Subway outlets closed permanently.

At that time, their outlets were opened at Pondok Indah Mall (PIM), Taman Anggrek Mall, Plaza Senayan, Ciputra Mall Jakarta, and Wisma 46 in Jakarta.

In addition, there is also one restaurant in Kuta, Bali. However, as of October 2000, the branches were permanently closed.

Now, 21 years later, Subway has re-opened its network in Indonesia with its first outlet located in Citos, Jakarta and will expand to a number of regions.

“We will open 8-10 other outlets around Jakarta before the end of the year, and next year we will expand in Java,” said Cottan.

2. The difference between Indonesian and foreign subways

Subway Indonesia said it had brought their best menus to be present in Indonesia.

“Will it be the same as Subway in other countries? Indonesia will be the best Subway,” said Cottan.

He added that in the future it is possible to present a menu with local flavors.

“For a limited and special offer, in the future we might make a special menu typical of Indonesia, with local flavors, such as rendang maybe,” said Cottan.
