Discussion of the project for changes to the Law on the Ownership and Use of Agricultural Lands continues in the Advisory Council to the Ministry of Agriculture
The fourth meeting was held at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Advisory Board on land relations. The Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Food, Georgi Toshev, stated that the Council continues its work since last week. Regardless of the fact that a qualified majority of 2/3 was not achieved for voting on final texts, during the meeting many proposals received from the industry were examined in detail. The Council reached a common opinion on amendments to serious provisions of the Law on the Ownership and Use of Agricultural Lands (ZSPZZZ). It was decided to hold a further meeting within a week to adopt the relevant decisions.
Deputy Minister Toshev pointed out that about 300 thousand decares of land from State Land Fund (SLF) in the country are free at the moment. He emphasized that it has already been requested by letter from the Regional Directorates of Agriculture to prepare lists of land properties to be offered for inclusion in a tender procedure for leasing from DPF for vegetable production and permanent plantations. “This thing must necessarily be coordinated with “Irrigation Systems”, because growing such crops without irrigation is unthinkable. “Until February 22, 2024 is the deadline in which the ODZ in the country will be ready with the references and we will see how many of these acres meet these conditions,” said Deputy Minister Toshev.
He also announced that the Ministry’s intention is to upgrade the launched projects under measure 4.3 with the new funds that will be in the Strategic Plan in the amount of 100 million euros, in order to ensure the maximum possibility of bringing irrigation water to potential suitors.
