3 Ombudsman Findings About Cooking Oil That Makes You Shake Your Head

Jakarta

The Ombudsman of the Republic of Indonesia (ORI) has just received surprising findings regarding problems that occur in the trade system cooking oil in Indonesia.

RI Ombudsman member Yeka Hendra Fatika stated that so far there were three major problems of irregularities that occurred in cooking oil transactions. But what is clear, according to him, is that cooking oil in Indonesia is still scarce and expensive.

“If we look at what has happened recently, it turns out that cooking oil is still scarce,” said Yeka, in a virtual discussion, Tuesday (22/2/2022).

The following are the findings of the Ombudsman:

1. Supply Restriction

According to Yeka, the first problem is the limitation of cooking oil supply. He suspects that the shortage of cooking oil is due to stock restrictions given by distributors to retail stores.

“There are still stock restrictions, meaning that distributors limit them to agents, agents limit them to retail,” Yeka said in a virtual press conference, Tuesday (22/2/2022).

He also suspects that there are efforts from distributors cooking oil who actually prefer to give their production to an industry that can pay more than selling it to the public at a predetermined HET.

“It could be that this cooking oil company prioritizes industrial consumers who give higher prices. In the end, the problem is that everything goes back to the people who can’t get cooking oil stocks,” said Yeka.

This is thought to have occurred in several provinces, starting from North Sumatra, DKI Jakarta, Jambi, Central Kalimantan, West Nusa Tenggara, South Sulawesi, and Papua.

There is an infiltration of cooking oil stocks into the market. Check the next page.
