FC Wacker Innsbruck is once again good for a surprise.
The Tyroleans unexpectedly announce a change of coach at the end of the season. The Innsbruck team will be relying on a new head coach from the coming season, while Thomas Grumser should remain in the club in a different function.
The successor will be announced at 2 p.m. At Wacker, Grumser progressed from active professional to youth coach and, via amateurs, to head coach of the professionals, which he took over on an interim basis in autumn 2016. After a step back to the second team, he was officially appointed head coach in March 2019.
Despite the missed relegation in the Bundesliga, Grumser was given the confidence to gradually lead a young, talented team back up through the HPYBET 2nd division. With the third place in the table and the move into the ÖFB Cup semi-final, expectations were exceeded. However, the current team of coaches does not seem to be expected to advance in the coming year.
The separation from Grumser is all the more surprising, and goalie coach Dominik Bichler is also leaving the current team of coaches. Both should remain in the club in a different function.
Sports director Alfred Hörtnagl explains the reasons for the change of coach as follows:
“In the current season our young team could play free and without pressure. Even if we do not officially announce the goal of promotion for the coming season, the expectations will inevitably be different. After thorough analysis, we have come to the conclusion that we have this task want to start with a new coach who has already delivered the corresponding results under similar conditions.Thanks to his relegation from the club, Thomas Grumser got the trust and accompanied the team in a difficult phase, for which we are very grateful to him talented team take the next step under new leadership. “
