WASHINGTON | The United States has registered 288 new COVID-19-related deaths in the past 24 hours, the leading Johns Hopkins University announced on Sunday.

The infection rate remains high in the United States, which is battling a new outbreak of the disease.
The United States is the country most heavily affected by COVID-19, with 125,768 deaths in more than 2.5 million confirmed cases, according to the count made at 8:30 p.m. local time on Sunday by Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, on the east coast.
Due to the increase in contamination, some American states have had to pause the deconfinement process.
The Governor of California thus ordered the closure of bars in Los Angeles and six other counties in this West Coast state, which is experiencing a rebound of the pandemic, on Sunday.
