266 schools are participating in the digital school project

Upper Austria. Digitalization has become an integral part of everyday education. For this reason, Upper Austria consistently implements the “8 point plan for digitization” of the Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research. The next step is to equip the students with mobile devices. A total of 266 schools in Upper Austria are participating in the “Digital School” project.

“The first important step of this 8-point plan was the standardization of the learning and communication platforms at the school location, for example through the Moodle learning platform, for which the state of Upper Austria pays almost 55,000 euros annually and everyone in Upper Austria. Provides compulsory schools free of charge. This enabled distance learning to be implemented much better than it was a year ago. Now the pupils are equipped with mobile devices. 93 percent of all schools are taking part in the ‘digital school’ project and will therefore make their lessons more digital from the coming school year, ”says LH Deputy Education Officer Christine Haberlander.

In the school year 2021/2022, the output of digital devices is planned in the 5th and 6th grade, from the school year 2022/23 in the 5th grade. In Upper Austria a total of 286 middle schools and lower AHS schools are eligible to participate, 93 percent of which have registered. In numbers, that is 41,000 students in 266 schools, divided into 839 5th grades and 801 6th grade.

“Digitization also presents us with major challenges in the education sector. We know that due to the rapid development we have to pay special attention to digital media and how to use them carefully. It is therefore a particular concern of ours to rapidly advance school and teaching development in this direction, ”says Education Director Alfred Klampfer.

“We are happy about the lively participation of the Upper Austrian. Schools in this future-oriented project of the BMBWF. The aim is for digital learning to be well anchored in all schools by 2024. A total of 250 million euros are being invested across Austria for this purpose. An amount that underlines the importance of this initiative ”, conclude Haberlander and Klampfer.
