218 assignments in one weekend:

The summer is well underway and with it many Norwegians have put their boats out to sea. The Rescue Company notices this well.

For a family of six, the weekend became somewhat more dramatic when the engine on their boat went on strike outside Mølen, outside Larvik. There was not much to do before the boat had gone into a rock wall. The family of six, consisted of two adults and four children, and a dog.

– It was probably experienced as unpleasant for the casualties, says Eirin Heddeland from Redningsselskap to Dagbladet.

When the Rescue Company arrived at the scene, the boat was quite close to land and in an area that Heddeland describes as an insidious water. The boat was quickly towed to port.

The case was first mentioned by NRK.

Busy weekend

– This past weekend we had 218 assignments. Brilliant sun has been reported in eastern Norway, so we expect the trend to continue, says Heddeland.

Heddeland says that most of the assignments were in Vestland and Telemark, with 52 assignments. Most of the assignments consisted of propulsion failure, which could include the engine stopping.

– The majority of the 218 assignments we had this weekend were assignments on recreational craft, Heddeland tells Dagbladet.

– Be well prepared

The rescue company has had a lot of focus on looking up. There are a lot of soft road users on the lake. Such as stand up paddle board, abbreviated SUP, has become very popular.

– A lot can be avoided by looking up, says Heddeland.

Of course, the use of safety equipment is also important when traveling at sea. The rescue company has a service telephone, which is not an emergency telephone, where you can call if you have simple questions you should be wondering about.

– Be well prepared. Check the weather in advance and the area to travel in if you are unsure, says Heddeland.
