The 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games Organizing Committee (Organizing Committee, Chairman Choi Jong-gu) announced on the 10th that it will hold a menu tasting event to be provided to athletes during the Winter Olympics.

The tasting event scheduled for 12 p.m. on this day will unveil a menu consisting of 100 menu items at the student cafeteria of Gangneung-Wonju University’s Yulgok Hall, which is the athletes’ cafeteria at the Gangneung Athletes’ Village.

This tasting event plans to conduct a final inspection, including sampling the athletes’ food menu ahead of the opening of the Gangneung Athletes’ Village on the 13th and collecting opinions on menu composition, restaurant layout, and athlete nutrition management.

About 300 people will attend the tasting event, including Second Vice Minister of Culture, Tourism and Sports Jang Mi-ran, Gangwon Special Self-Governing Province Deputy Governor for Economic Affairs Jeong Gwang-yeol, the head of the host city, the IOC, and representatives of Amoje Food and Gangwon Land, operators of the athletes’ village restaurant.

At the tasting event on this day, about 100 Chinese menu items will be presented on the first day of the 5-day cycle menu that will be provided to about 2,900 athletes during the competition period.

The organizing committee created a variety of menus, including Western, Korean, halal, and vegan dishes, so that the athletes participating from over 80 countries could perform at their best.

The organizing committee plans to operate athletes’ restaurants in the two athletes’ villages in Gangneung and Jeongseon to provide meals for athletes during the competition period.

The 2024 Gangwon Winter Youth Olympic Games will be held in four cities and counties, including Gangneung, Pyeongchang, Jeongseon, and Hoengseong, Gangwon-do, from the 19th to February 1, and about 3,000 athletes from over 80 countries will participate. Korea’s athletes will be comprised of 153 athletes and coaches, the largest in the history of the Winter Youth Olympics.
