2024 Car Incentives: New Changes and Remaining Funding

FINISHED, BUT THEY WILL COME BACK – They lasted less than two weeks i 120 million euros Of incentives intended for the purchase of new cars thermal and hybrid. The platform, put online on 23 January 2024, saw the funds allocated to cars falling within the range quickly run out. emissions 61-135 g/km, for simplicity’s sake, most mild hybrid, full hybrid and less polluting cars with traditional diesel or petrol engines. These 120 million are part of the old scheme ofEcobonusagain with the figures for 2023 (Who the numbers). The latest measures taken by the government, which will become effective no earlier than half of March 2024will make available a further 283 million euros for the purchase of cars falling within the highest emissions range (Who to know more).

500 EUROS LESS WITH EURO 4 – The funds had practically halved the same day the platform became available again. In the following days, however, there was a slowdown in requests, perhaps while waiting for official communications from the government. Then, when the new incentives prospectus came out on February 1st, there was a new boom in requests, perhaps because it was noted that in one case the incentive would be lower with the new scheme. If with the incentives currently in force anyone had purchased a car with emissions between 61 and 135 g/km of CO2by scrapping a vehicle from Euro 0 to Euro 4 at the same time, he would have received a discount of 2.000 eurowhen the 2024 Ecobonus comes into force, scrapping a Euro 4 car will only result in 1.500 euro of incentive. Nothing changes for those who scrap a Euro 3 as the incentive remains 2,000 euros. With the new incentives, the owners of the most polluting cars, from Euro 0 to Euro 2, will earn a bonus of 3,000 euros by scrapping them.

THE OTHERS ARE LITTLE IN DEMAND – However, the sums allocated for the other two emission bands remain almost entirely available. Of the 194.75 million euros reserved for the purchase by private individuals of cars with emissions between 0 to 20 g/km of CO2 (for simplification, electric ones) are still in the ministry’s coffers almost 187 million. Plug-in hybrids, in the range 21-60 g/km, they still have a fund of just under 230 million euros, out of the 232.75 million reserved for private individuals. Similar percentages are also recorded for the residual funds allocated to rental and car sharing in these two bands (there are no incentives in this sector for the 61-135 g/km band).
