A father couldn’t help but save his son after the two were swept up in an avalanche while skiing in Breckenridge, Colorado.
The two were skiing approximately 11,600 feet in the backcountry when, at 1:00 p.m., packed snow fell down the mountainside, partially burying the father and son. according to a report from the Colorado Avalanche Information Center released Sunday.
The father managed to free himself and looked in vain for his son. He moved to find cell phone service and called 911, but his son was found dead by a rescue dog at 3pm after authorities arrived, the report said.

However, the names of the two skiers have not been made public identified the Denver Post them as father and son.
The son was one of two killed in an avalanche this season, according to the information center.
