On December 15, the 2020 China-Africa Agricultural Cooperation Working Meeting was held in Beijing. Zhang Taolin, Vice Minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, attended the opening ceremony of the meeting and delivered a speech.
In his speech, Zhang Taolin said: Since the Beijing Summit 2018 of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation and the first Forum on China-Africa Agricultural Cooperation held in 2019, China and Africa have continuously achieved new progress in the establishment of cooperation mechanism, trade, investment and technical exchanges in the agricultural sector, which has made a further contribution to the development of relations between China and Africa.
Zhang Taolin stressed that strengthening agricultural cooperation between China and Africa and effectively guaranteeing regional food security is not only an intrinsic need for the economic and social development of China and Africa, but also constitutes concrete actions to fight the COVID-19 epidemic and stabilize agricultural production. China is willing to continue working hand in hand with African countries to fully grasp the many opportunities offered by the new development model, deepen their pragmatic agricultural cooperation, strengthen the connection of development strategies in the agricultural sector, improve the multilateral and bilateral agricultural cooperation mechanisms, promote agricultural technological innovation, expand agricultural economic and trade cooperation, and strengthen agricultural capacity, all to promote the common development of agriculture in China and Africa and contribute to the achievement of the United Nations 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The heads of diplomatic missions of the African Union and 33 African countries, representatives of scientific research institutions and Chinese companies attended the meeting. They had in-depth exchanges of views on the theme “Implementing the achievements of the Forum on Sino-African Agricultural Cooperation and promoting the modernization of agriculture in China and Africa”.
