Double gold medalist at the London Olympic Games in 2012, Nîmes Yannick Agnel, who trained as a youngster for Pablo Neruda, has, in the space of 24 hours, become a legend of his sport, a source of pride for the City and a example for all the swimmers of the Nautic Club Nîmois who have been training since 2007 at the Nemausa nautical stadium. Complete equipment, consisting in particular of a 50-meter pool and an 11-meter deep pit; the only one installed between Toulouse and Nice.
City of water, Nîmes likes too ice. Since 2017, a new ice rink has been delighting young and old alike. Adjoining the Marcel-Rouvière Stadium, whose Alain Mimoun athletics track was completely rehabilitated in 2014, it completes a sports complex also welcoming the Iris family swimming pool. Since 2001, facilities have emerged such as the Camargue gymnasium which, along Avenue de la Liberté, welcomes Nîmes Basket teams and schoolchildren. A little further south, the skate park, made up of different modules including a concrete bowl, has found its rightful place in the hearts of skaters whose curves allow both beginners and experienced to have fun.
Nearby, the Parnassus will soon have to begin its transformation to meet the new demands of fans of handball, gymnastics, badminton and archery. And in 2023, the Sports Hall at Mas de Vignolles, near Carré Sud, also promises to welcome amateur clubs in the new sporting setting that their licensees deserve … pending further gold medals.
