“20,000-Year-Old Pendant Found in Siberian Cave Linked to Stone Age Woman”

A pendant was recently discovered in a cave in Siberia and, according to archaeologists, was made around 20,000 years ago.

After carefully removing it from the cave, scientists were able to examine the pendant further and even discovered that it belonged to a Stone Age woman related to hunter-gatherers known to inhabit parts of the foothills of the Siberian Altai Mountains.

Objects like this can illustrate cultures and behaviors dating back to our earliest history. It’s unclear if the woman who wore the necklace also made it, but scientists will continue to examine the artifact for a while, extracting specific DNA and seeing what other information they can find.

Elena Essel, a molecular biologist at the Max Planck Institute for Evolutionary Anthropology in Germany, said when she touched the pendant, she “Going back in time and imagining the human hands that created and used it thousands of years ago”.
